The author of this book is Nadia Aguiar.
All Maya wanted was to live on land, go to regular school, and have regular friends. But instead she lives aboard the Pamela Jane with her marine scientists parents, brother, and sister. And she has no idea that soon her life will thrown into chaos and havoc.
Maya, Simon, and Penny are left alone on the Pamela Jane after their parents are cast overboard during a violent storm. In a desperate attempt to rescue their parents, the children sail the ship in the wrong direction. They wash up on a mysterious and foreboding island, and soon find that everything is not what it appears to be. The killer vines, jaguars, pirates, mermaids, soldiers, the child stealer, the cloud forest, a mysterious, dangerous, and handsome boy, a beautiful glowing jewelish rock, and more, all take part in this wonderful and COLORFUL story, I had an amazing time just imagining all the scenery and views. The one thing that I did not like, but also loved, (I know, I'm confusing), was that the story kind of went everywhere and anywhere, it was just one wild ride after the next! The author did a really good job on making you see through Maya's eyes, and what it was like for her taking care of her brother and sister, such responsibility! The ending was unclear so hopefully the author will make another book soon! This is a truly action-packed book that I could read over and over.
